Yves Saint Laurent (1936-2008) - A Pictorial Tribute

"To be beautiful, all a woman needs is a black pullover and a black skirt and to be arm in arm with a man she loves"

Saint Laurent holds drawing of cocktail dress design that won him first prize 1953 in a fashion drawing competition sponsored by the International Wool Secratariat, in Paris

Final Paris Show - 2002

Born in Oran, Algeria of French parents ... well, you can imagine how the post would go!

Much better to show a collection of classic Yves Saint Laurent dresses ... as the couturier did throughout his collections.

1960's

'Mondrian' Day Dress, Autumn 1965

'African-Style' Creation, New York, 1967

1970's

Evening Slav Inspired Ensemble, Fall/Winter 1976-77

1980's

'Ruffle Dress', Rive Gauche

'Casta Diva' Fall/Winter 1983–84

1990's

2000's

Laurent's daring is epitomised in this great bit of homoerotic advertising.

Bravo!

  1. Yep, famous nude od self, check. M7 ad, check. But fragrances? Not the most accomplished (to my taste, which is as good as anyone else's, of course).

Fashion-wise? have seen better both post-YSL and before

P.S.I think karma may have struck back big time - keyboard is freezing up on me. Took me 21 minutes to write this at all...

    P.P.S. Keep it up Nick!

  2. hey peter. not crazy bout YSL fragrance either - like chanel's 'pour monsieur' - great citrus summery scent. and the couture selection only reflects what's google-able - a poor excuse i know but ... (gimme a break - LOL). take care my friend ... in your ice box.
